The federal government on monday, approved the deployment of armed forces across Pakistan to ensure security during the month of Muharram.
This decision follows requests from authorities in Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, seeking military assistance to manage law and order.
Invoking Article 245 of the Constitution, the central government authorized the deployment of army and civil armed forces to maintain peace. The Ministry of Interior has clarified that the deployment will be determined by the situation on the ground, with provincial authorities having the discretion to specify deployment locations.
Orders for the deployment have been issued by the federal Ministry of Interior, with the forces set to assist civil administration.
It is noteworthy that Ashura, observed on the 10th day of Muharram, will fall on July 17 (Wednesday) this year. The provincial government of Sindh has imposed a ban on pillion riding for the first 10 days of Muharram to enhance security.
Ashura marks the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala, a significant event in Islamic history.
