ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government has announced the withdrawal of the recent electricity tariff increase for consumers using up to 200 units per month, according to sources on Tuesday.
The prime minister secured cabinet approval for this relief, which will be in effect from July to September 2024. To support this initiative, the federal government will provide a subsidy of Rs 50 billion, aimed at alleviating the financial burden on low-income consumers, insiders stated.
It’s worth noting that on July 4, the federal cabinet had approved an increase in the basic electricity tariff of up to Rs 7.12 per unit. This increase affected both protected and non-protected consumers using up to 200 units of power and was implemented on July 1, 2024.
Specifically, the cabinet had approved a tariff increase of Rs 3.95 per unit for protected consumers using up to 100 units, and Rs 4.10 per unit for those consuming between 101 and 200 units.
