The Federal Government on Thursday announced public holidays for 9 and 10 Muharram (28 to 29 July 2023) on account of Ashura.
“It is notified for general information that the Prime Minister is pleased to declare 28th & 29th July, 2023 (Friday & Saturday) as public holidays on the occasion of Ashura (9th & 10th Muharram 1445 AH).” the notification read.

On Tuesday, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee (RHC) Chairman, Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad, announced that Muharram moon was not spotted, with the new Islamic year commencing from Friday (20 July 2023).
Meanwhile, the Government has also approved deployment of armed forces across the country for purpose of security during Muharram processions.
