The Federal Government has exempted Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) on electricity bills up to 200 units, announced Minister for Power, Khurram Dastagir Khan, on Wednesday.
According to the details, the exemption is part of the relief package announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who said that 17 million of the total power consumers will be exempt from paying the high Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) in their electricity bills.
During the press conference, the Minister for Power, Khurram Dastagir, revealed that a relief of Rs. 22 billion will be provided to the masses through the exemption of FCA in their electricity bills.
The power minister said that work is underway to restructure the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA). “The authority’s main task is to determine the tariff, which is facing delays,” he said, adding that if these tariffs are announced in a timely manner, the consumers will not have to pay the surcharge amount.
Additional amounts paid by the power consumers on account of June’s FCA was because of Azaab-e-Imrani (the calamity of Imran).” he said, while pointing out that PTI Chairman’s claims regarding excessive power capacity was ‘incorrect’.
However, the power minister said that coalition government was trying its best to keep electricity cheap in order to provide relief to the inflation-weary consumers.
