The Punjab Government is mulling on taking action against the staff of Multan’s famous Nishtar Hospital for the piles of decomposing dead bodies on the medical facility’s roof and a video of the scene has gone viral on social media causing widespread outspread outrage.
According to the details, the decision has been taken during a meeting of the investigation committee, which completed its report and sent it to Punjab’s Additional Chief Secretary. Furthermore, the report has recommended departmental action against those involved in receiving and leaving the dead bodies on the rooftop instead of a proper room.
The report also urged police to take back the abandoned corpses within28 days after sending it to the hospital and stated that police and the secretary of the police union council would jointly conduct the dead body’s burial in coordination with the administration of Nishtar Hospital.
Earlier, Nishtar Hospital has blamed the police and rescue officials for piles of dead bodies on the medical facility’s roof, stating that police did not take them back on time and since hospital had no storage space available, they put them in rooms on the medical facility’s roof for storage.
Nishtar Hospital added that bodies received from the police are usually in decayed condition as well and they cannot be kept in the mortuary. “As a result of their condition, maggots start eating them — and they can travel from one body to another.” said the hospital’s representative. “This is why, the bodies that are decaying are kept on the roof, where there are three rooms.” she added in an interview with Geo News’ anchorperson.
