Minister of Religious Affairs, Aneeq Ahmed, unveiled the Hajj policy for 2024 on Thursday, marking the start of a digital era for the pilgrimage experience.
In a significant shift, pilgrims will now have access to an internet-free mobile application, ensuring connectivity without the need for internet services. Additionally, a complimentary unlimited call package has been arranged for the convenience of Hajis.
Hajj 2024 Cost
Aneeq Ahmed disclosed that the cost for the Pakistan to Saudi Arabia Hajj in 2024 has been reduced to 1,075,000 from the previous year’s Rs 1,175,000. He emphasized that accommodations for pilgrims have been secured in prime locations within the Holy cities.
The Hajj Secretary clarified that the cost of a sacrificial animal is not included in the standard Hajj package. Furthermore, those opting for a shorter Hajj will incur an additional cost of Rs75,000.
Addressing the media, Aneeq Ahmed shared that the groundbreaking Hajj policy had received approval from the caretaker cabinet, representing a paradigm shift in the pilgrimage experience. He expressed confidence that the upcoming Hajj would surpass its predecessor, with plans in place to accommodate a substantial number of pilgrims.
The first phase of the policy introduces an ‘affordable’ package priced at Rs. 1,075,000. Discussions with airlines are ongoing to secure minimal airfare, with the intention to allocate the savings to pilgrims’ accounts.
Hajj Process Being Digitized
In line with embracing digital advancements, the Ministry of IT played a pivotal role in digitizing the Hajj process. A dedicated app for Hajj 2024 promises a streamlined experience, offering 90,000 pilgrims suitcases equipped with QR codes for efficient management. The app, designed to function seamlessly even in low connectivity areas, provides Haji with 7GB of data internet for 40 days, enabling unlimited calls within Pakistan.
Aneeq Ahmed highlighted the introduction of abayas featuring the Pakistani flag for women on the spiritual journey, along with the distribution of small bags and Ihram to ease the pilgrimage process.
Introduction of Short Hajj
A unique short Hajj, spanning 20 to 21 days, has been introduced for the first time, showcasing a blend of tradition and technological innovation in the Hajj 2024 policy introduced by Pakistan.
