ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide heatwave alert, warning citizens of significantly high temperatures across Pakistan from April 22 to April 27, 2025.
The NDMA’s advisory urges the public to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
Weather Forecast:
Punjab:
- Dry and hot weather expected across the province.
- Residents are advised to stay hydrated and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities.
Balochistan:
- Dry and very hot conditions areanticipated.
- High risk of heatstroke; people should limit sun exposure, especially during peak hours (11 AM–4 – 4 PM).
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP):
- Hot weather isexpected in most districts.
- Cloudy conditions with isolated rainfall arelikely in Abbottabad, Bannu, Buner, Charsadda, Chitral, Dir, Haripur, Karak, Kohat, Kohistan, Khyber, Kurram, Mansehra, Mohmand, Nowshera, Peshawar, Swabi, Swat, and Waziristan.
Sindh:
- Dry and extremely hot weather isforecasted.
- Authorities advise staying indoors, using cooling methods, and checking on vulnerable individuals (elderly, children, and outdoor workers).
Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) & Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK):
- Hot weather isexpected in most areas.
- Isolated rainfall ispossible in some regions.
Precautionary Measures:
- Stay hydrated – Drink plenty of water and avoid caffeinated/sugary drinks.
- Avoid direct sunlight – Especially between 11 AM and 4 PM.
- Wear light, loose clothing – Preferably in light colors.
- Use sunscreen and hats – To protect against sunburn.
- Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles – Temperatures can rise dangerously within minutes.
- Check on vulnerable individuals – Elderly, infants, and those with chronic illnesses are at higher risk.
The NDMA has advised provincial disaster management authorities and local administrations to remain vigilant and ensure public awareness campaigns are conducted. Emergency response teams have been put on standby to handle heat-related emergencies.
