The Ministry of Interior has issued order for internet services to remain suspended in various parts of Lahore amid Tehreek-e-Labbaik (TLP) protests in the city and the martyrdom of two policemen in clashes with the supporters of the religious party.
In the notification, the Interior Ministry said that internet services will be suspended in the following areas of Lahore:
- Data Darbar
- Shahdara
- Ravi Bridge areas
It is pertinent to mention that two policemen were crushed to death on Friday as they clashed with demonstrators during the TLP protest in the city. The two police officers, identified as Constable Ayub and Constable Khalid, were hit by a vehicle as thousands of people gathered in the TLP protest to prepare for their long march from Lahore to Islamabad.
TLP is protesting for the release of their chief Saad Hussain Rizvi, the son of late Khadim Hussain Rizvi, who has been in the custody of the Punjab Government since 12 April 2021 on charges on inciting violence. Furthermore, the banned party is accusing the Government for going back on its promise to expel the French ambassador to Pakistan.
Moreover, several major roads in Lahore, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi have been closed to maintain law and order situation and control the TLP protest.
