KARACHI: An investigation has been ordered into the Nadia Ashraf suicide case according to a notification issued by Senior Superintendent of Police at District East, Karachi.
According to the notification, ASP Maroof Usman has been nominated as the Enquiry Officer and asked to investigate the matter regarding the suicide and submit a comprehensive report within 7 days.
The directives came after the matter went viral on social media alleging that her suicide was the result of harassment at the hands of her supervisor at the Dr. Panjwani Centre for Molecular Medicine.

Nadia was a PhD student at the centre where she was reportedly being harassed by her supervisor for the past few years and the doctoral student had her thesis rejected several times.
The matter started circulated on social media after students of Karachi University especially those from the Dr. Panjwani Centre started demanding an investigation into the suicide of their fellow student Nadia Ashraf and a probe into why she wasn’t able to finish her PhD during the last 15 years.
However, the International Centre for Chemical and Biologocal Sciences (ICCBS) at the Karachi University rejected all such allegation calling the story behind the incident “baseless and unfounded”.
According to the spokesman of the department, Nadia Ashraf committed suicide as she was severely depressed due to family issues and her father’s disappearance a long time ago.
However, a probe into the matter has been initiated and we will soon get updates as to what actually happened. This is a copy of the notification from the Senior Superintendent of Police directing an inquiring into the Nadia Ashraf suicide case.
