The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts more monsoon rains with scattered heavy showers in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and various parts of Pakistan starting Friday night and continuing through the weekend.
Strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are moving into the southern and central regions of Pakistan. These currents will likely affect the northern parts of the country by Friday evening. Additionally, a westerly wave is expected to influence the northern regions starting tonight.
Under these conditions, intermittent monsoon rains with scattered heavy and isolated very heavy falls are anticipated in the twin cities, Sindh, northeast and southeast Balochistan, Kashmir, Punjab, the Potohar Region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The heavy rains could lead to flash flooding in local streams and nullahs in areas such as Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Bunner, Bannu, Kurrum, Waziristan, Dera Ismail Khan, Orakzai, Khyber, Mohmand, Nowshera, Swabi, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Northeast Punjab, and hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and Kashmir.
Urban flooding is also a risk in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal, Nowshera, and Peshawar during the weekend. Landslides may disrupt traffic in hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The forecast for Islamabad indicates maximum temperatures between 26-28°C on Saturday and 27-29°C on Sunday. Rawalpindi’s temperatures are expected to range from 26-28°C on Saturday and 25-27°C on Sunday.
In the past 24 hours, heavy rains with isolated very heavy falls have been reported in Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Balochistan, Kashmir, and lower Sindh.
