Islamabad is set to welcome electric (EV) buses from China. Initially, 30 out of 150 buses will arrive, with the rest following soon. The Islamabad electric bus service will be managed by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) in collaboration with the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC).
The Islamabad electric bus service will start its route from the Convention Centre, which has charging facilities. Meanwhile, plans are underway to establish a proper depot at Zero Point. According to sources, the second batch of 70 buses is expected to arrive shortly, with the final batch of 50 scheduled for May 5.
Once operational, these buses will run on 13 designated routes, enhancing public transportation. The CDA Chairman will soon decide the initial routes for the first 30 buses. These routes will cover important destinations such as hospitals, residential areas, and commercial centers. Among them are routes connecting Police Foundation to Orange Line Station, Allama Iqbal Station to Potohar Station, and PIMs to Secretariat.
The Islamabad bus electric service is anticipated to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, signaling a significant step towards eco-friendly and efficient urban mobility.
