The Islamabad Police raided sheesha cafes in a late-night joint operation in Bahria Town Souk center and arrested 64 individuals, including four women, and seized hookah flavors.
The police raids targeted illegal indoor sheesha hubs, following the outcry of the residents in the area.
More than 108 sheesha cafés are still operating openly in key areas like F-6 to F-11, E-7, I-8, and various private housing societies in Islamabad. Locals say these places are running freely because their owners have the backing of powerful individuals, making it hard for authorities to take action.
One resident expressed frustration, saying the district administration seems to have completely backed down in front of these sheesha operators. They called on the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad to take firm action against all forms of drug peddling.
A police officer, who asked not to be named, hinted that an official from Sindh might be shielding these cafés, describing the operators as an “organized mafia.” While the authorities do have the power to seal cafés and file cases, political pressure often blocks any real, long-term enforcement.
Concerned citizens are urging the government to include these hookah cafés in its Nasha Ab Nahi (No More Drugs) campaign. One worried parent pleaded, “Please stop those who are poisoning our children.”
