A significant increase in street crime is causing concern among residents of Islamabad. Recent incidents, marked by brazen snatchings and gunpoint robberies, have prompted calls for review the security measures.
On December 17, 2024, at approximately 8:20 PM, a mobile phone was forcibly taken at gunpoint on F-10 Main Sumbul Road. Security camera footage reveals that the perpetrators employed tactics similar to those seen in Karachi, indicating a growing level of sophistication and boldness among criminals.
Furthermore, on December 21, 2024, around 10:00 PM, a mobile phone was snatched from a female student outside her hostel gate on Street 42, F-6/1. Disturbingly, a similar incident took place at the same location the preceding night, where a student’s laptop was stolen.
The recurrence of these incidents in F-6/1 suggests a potential pattern. The escalating street crime trend across Islamabad has raised public demand for immediate intervention by authorities.
Residents are urging the government to significantly increase police patrolling and implement effective strategies to apprehend the criminal gangs perpetrating these acts, aiming to restore a sense of safety and security within the capital.
