The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is actively tackling the water shortage issue in Islamabad under the Chairman’s direction. The Water Management Wing has expedited various projects to ensure uninterrupted water supply and minimize difficulties for residents.
One key initiative involved tackling existing problems like leakages and outdated infrastructure. The Water Management Wing completed repairs and replaced old pipes in the Simli Water Filtration Plant and Main Condition Line. This not only improved water pressure in affected areas but also resulted in a daily water saving of 8 lakh gallons. Additionally, leakages in the G-7/3 water supply line were successfully resolved.
Considering the low monsoon rainfall impacting other dams like Khanpur, the Water Supply Department is taking proactive measures to address the upcoming summer demand. Four new tube wells will be installed in strategic sectors to supplement water supply if Khanpur Dam reserves decrease. Furthermore, tenders have been published for a 60 crore rupee project to eliminate water leakages in other networks, further conserving precious water resources.
To address immediate water needs, the Water Supply Department has increased vigilance of water tanker services. Recognizing the importance of citizen feedback, they have established a dedicated helpline number (9202218) and a WhatsApp number (0335775444) for residents to report complaints and receive prompt assistance. Timely redressal of reported issues is emphasized for continuous improvement.
The Water Supply Wing emphasizes responsible water usage by residents, encouraging them to be mindful of their consumption and report any instances of water wastage. To ensure optimal water utilization and conservation, strict action is being taken against those who waste water.
By implementing these comprehensive measures, the CDA demonstrates its commitment to improving water management in Islamabad. This multifaceted approach aims to ensure a sustainable and reliable water supply for all residents, both now and in the future.
