Alternate energy potential holds key to current crisis: PM

ISLAMABAD, Jun 26 : Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said that Pakistan’s huge alternative energy potential held the key to overcome acute energy crisis being faced by the country.  “All avenues need to be explored and every effort be put to tap in the alternative energy potential of the country”, the Prime Minister emphasized. He was speaking during a presentation which was given to him on solar energy resources in Pakistan and investment opportunities by a consortium of foreign and local companies. The Prime Minister said that his government would go an extra mile to facilitate those companies and firms which transferred technology through their investments in the alternative energy sector in Pakistan.

He observed that Pakistan possessed huge potential of solar and wind energy, reservoirs of coal and other fossil fuels to produce electricity.

“If utilized optimally, it will help to improve peoples’ standards of living,” he added.

The consortium showed confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and informed that the pro-investor policies of the present government had attracted them towards investment opportunities in Pakistan.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Dr.  Mussadiq Malik and other senior government officials.
