The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has announced the launch of Pakistan’s Multi Mission Communication Satellite, PAKSAT MM1. The launch is scheduled for May 30, 2024, from the XiChang Satellite Launch Centre (XSLC) in China. This project is part of Pakistan’s National Space Program 2047.
PAKSAT MM1 is a joint venture between Suparco and the Chinese aerospace industry. The collaboration addresses Pakistan’s growing needs in communication and connectivity. According to Suparco, this project signifies the strong technological cooperation between China and Pakistan.
The satellite, equipped with advanced communication technologies, aims to significantly contribute to Pakistan’s socio-economic development. Suparco stated that it would be a crucial step towards transforming Pakistan into a “Digital Pakistan.” The launch ceremony will be broadcast live for the media from Suparco’s establishments in Karachi and Islamabad.
Pakistan has previously launched six space assets: BADR-A, BADR-B, PAKSAT 1-R, PRSS-1, PakTes 1-A, and iCube Qamar. Earlier this month, iCube-Qamar, Pakistan’s first lunar mission, sent back its first images of the moon after entering lunar orbit. It completed its rotation around the moon in 12 hours, marking a significant achievement for Pakistani space exploration. Scientists hailed this development as a significant success.
