KARACHI: The Sindh government has reappointed Javed Alam Odho as the Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Karachi Police. This decision, announced on Thursday, follows a recent surge in street crimes in the metropolis.
Odho is no stranger to the position, having previously served as AIG Karachi. He was replaced by Khadim Hussain Rind in September 2023. However, escalating crime rates have prompted his return to the crucial role.
Khadim Hussain Rind was removed from his position on March 30 due to the alarming rise in street crimes. In the interim, Imran Yaqoob Minhas took on the additional responsibilities of AIG Karachi. Minhas is currently the Additional IG of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).
The Sindh government had earlier decided to replace Imran Yaqoob Minhas only 15 days into his appointment as Karachi police chief. The decision was also driven by concerns over the growing crime rates in the city.
With Odho’s reappointment, authorities aim to tackle the surge in street crimes and restore safety and security in Karachi. His prior experience and familiarity with the city’s challenges are expected to be instrumental in this effort.
Residents of Karachi hope that this leadership change will bring a positive shift in the city’s security situation, addressing the pressing issue of street crimes that have plagued the metropolis in recent months.
