Justice for Adnan Siddique: Young Pakistani stabbed to death in Italy

ITALY: Justice for Adnan Siddique: A young Pakistani national was mercilessly stabbed to death while trying to protect farmworkers being exploited by gangmasters.

Adnan Siddique was stabbed to death in his apartment on June 2 in the Sicilian city of Caltanissetta.

The thirty-two-year-old was killed by fellow Pakistani nationals trying to protect other Pakistani farmworkers according to reports.

Adnan who hails from the city of Lahore had moved to Italy five years ago. He was settled in Caltanissetta, working as a maintenance worker for textile machinery. He is said to be leading a normal life.

Five suspects have been arrested by police. Four are accused of committing the crime while one for assisting them in the brutal and barbaric killing of Adnan.

Adnan was brutally attacked with a sharp object, according to reports he was stabbed with a 30cm sharp blade. He was found with wounds on the side, back, shoulder, and legs.

According to Italy’s Carabinieri police force

According to the police, the five suspects were forcing farm-workers to hand over half of their income to them. Adnan Siddique had accompanied one of the workers to file a police complaint against the gang.

Adnan was receiving threats by the gang members since then and was subsequently found murdered in his apartment in Via San Cataldo.

The police were called by his neighbors after they heard his screams, the victim died shortly and is said to have been stabbed five times with a 30-cm sharp knife.

Gigi Omar Modica, the investigating magistrate has interrogated the four for murder and one for assisting in the crime. The arrested suspects have been named as

2. Ali Shujat, 32,
3. Muhammad Bilal, 21, and
4. Imrad Muhammad Cheema, 40

5. Muhammad Mehdi, 48 for aiding and abetting.

Family of Adnan

Adnan hails from a poor family in Lahore. Adnan was the only hope for his poor parents and his eight siblings.

Adnan is remembered as a very polite, kind, and honest man. Adnan had been previously beaten up for helping and defending other workers. He had ended up in a hospital.

#Adnan Siddique was the spokesman for the exploited laborers. And he was killed. It is a pain to tell his story. It no longer has to happen. The battle for legality and rights has a foundation in the defeat of exploitation.

This morning in the square in front of the “Marco Tomaselli” stadium in Caltanissetta the last farewell to Adnan Siddique, the young Pakistani killed by five compatriots on the evening of last 3 June.

So far there is very little reaction to this perplexing crime. The complaints of Adnan Siddique were apparently not properly followed up.
