The announcement was made by Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon on Twitter, and he also revealed the route of the electric bus service that will start operating in Karachi today.
Karachi Electric Bus Service Routes
Here are the routes for the new Karachi Electric Bus Service:
Route EV-1:
The Electric Bus Service will start from Tank Chowk near Jinnah Avenue and pass through the airport area, Shahrah-e-Faisal, FTC, Korangi, and Khayaban-e-Ittehad to reach Clock Tower at Seaview.
Route EV-2:
Bahria Town towards Malir Halt and passes through M9 Toll Plaza, Baqai University, Jinnah Avenue, Malir Cantt, Tank Chowk, and Model Colony.
Route EV-3:
Route EV-3 of the Electric Bus Service has been launched, which will start from Malir Cant Check Post 5 towards Numaish and pass through Safoora Chowrangi, Mosamiyat, Kamran Chowrangi , Perfume Chowk, Millennium Mall, Dalmia, Aga Khan Hospital, Liaquat National, and MA Jinnah Road.
From MA Jinnah Road it will connect to Peoples Bus Service (PBS) route 4 and continue till Tower.
Route EV-4
The Sindh Transport Department has introduced a new electric bus service route in Karachi, named “EV-4.”
This 55-kilometer route connects Super Highway to Numaish Chowrangi, passing through important areas like Dumba Goth, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Sohrab Goth, and Al-Asif Square.
Fare
The Karachi Electric Bus Service will charge a fare of Rs. 50 from passengers.
Furthermore, the electric buses have the capacity to cover a distance of 240 km on a single charge of 20 minutes, and the transport vehicles will only run on charging from solar energy plans installed by the transport ministry.
Moreover, the buses have the capacity to carry 30 seated people, while there is room for 40 people to stand and a separate portion for disabled people.
It is pertinent to mention that the project was first announced in November, and the Sindh Government has come through with its promise of improving the port city’s public transport after years of neglect.
