In Karachi’s Sachal jurisdiction, the police apprehended a suspect in the killing of an online taxi driver that occurred six days prior. Shockingly, the perpetrator admitted to viewing the murder as if it were part of a video game.
The incident unfolded on November 9 near Sir Syed Road in the Safura Goth area of Karachi, where an unidentified vehicle was discovered. Not far from the vehicle, in the bushes, the lifeless body of a young man was found, having fallen victim to a gunshot. The suspect, later identified as Samad, confessed to this heinous act.
The victim was identified as Shahzaib, who had recently arrived in Karachi from Hyderabad. Although he initially found a ride, the subsequent events leading up to the crime remained unclear. In response, the police launched an investigation, filed a case, and managed to apprehend the suspect six days after the murder.
According to law enforcement officials, Samad confessed to perceiving Shahzaib, the taxi driver, as a character in a gaming task, and he carried out the murder accordingly. After the incident, Samad nonchalantly returned home and resumed his routine, indulging once again in his gaming pursuits.
This disturbing act marked Samad’s first real-world homicide linked to his gaming activities, despite a prior unsuccessful attempt to rent a car from Gulistan-e-Johar. In that instance, the rent-a-car service owner’s request for Samad’s address thwarted his plans, preventing him from “completing the task.”
In his statement, Samad claimed to have become so immersed in the game that he lost the distinction between the virtual and real aspects of life. However, upon facing the harsh reality following his arrest, he expressed genuine remorse for his actions.
