Karachi: Karachi Police Warned Against Harassment of Couples – Dr. Amir Shaikh, Chief of Karachi Police has warned Karachi Police against harassment of couples.
On Wednesday, Karachi Chief Police, Dr. Amir Shaikh has issued a notice and has announced that strict action will be taken against police who harass and humiliate couples by asking them to show their marriage certificates (Nikahnama) to prove if they are husband and wife.

There is a general complaint by people that police officers in their mobile and motorbikes have been harassing couples to prove they are husband and wife. They stop the young couples on the roads and inquire about their marriage certificates.
Dr. Amir Khan Additional Inspector General of Police, Karachi in his notification issued to DIGP South Zone, Karachi Mr. Javed Alam Odho, DIGP West Zone Karachi, Mr. Khadim Hussain Rind, and DIGP East Zone Karachi Mr. Amir Farooqui, has instructed to direct their subordinate staff not to demand marriage certificates (Nikahnamas) from anyone. He has also said that in future such action will not be tolerated and action will be taken against those involved and also the supervising officers.
No further complaint be received against police force from any part of Karachi from any family or couples stated Dr. Amir Shaikh. He also added if any complaint received from the recreational area of Karachi strict action will be levied against the involved police officers
It has been found that the police officers have been blackmailing and threatening the couples in order to get the bribe from them. The police have been threatening the couples that if they did not produce the proof they will be detained and their photos will be uploaded on social media.
