The Sindh Government in collaboration with the World Bank is launching the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Yellow Line Project in Karachi to cater to the people’s transportation needs in the port city.
According to the details, Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, on Thursday presided over a meeting to review the arrangements regarding the construction on Karachi’s Yellow Line BRT project.
The meeting was attended by Sindh Transport Minister, Sharjeel Memon, a delegation from the World Bank, and the Sindh Transport and Mass Transit Authority (STMTA).
Transport Minster, Sharjeel Memon, briefed the meeting about Karachi’s Yellow Line BRT, which is a 21 kilometers project that would start from Dawood Chowrangi and end at Numaish.
According to the conceptual plan, the Karachi Yellow Line BRT project will be 21 kilometers (km) long and will include 17.6 km at grade, and 3.2 km underground with a total of 28 stations across the routes.
Under the conceptual plan, eight underpasses will be constructed at Murtaza Chowrangi, Singer Chowrangi, Bilal Chowrangi, Vita Chowrangi, Shaan Chowrangi, Brooks Chowrangi, Khayaban-e-Ittehad, Korangi Road intersection, and at the Sunset Boulevard intersection. In addition, the Jam Sadiq Bridge will also be widened.
Furthermore, Sindh’s Chief Minister directed the Transport Minister for the construction of a new four-lane one-kilometer-long bridge, adjacent to the existing Jam Sadiq Bridge.
The total cost of the Karachi Yellow Line BRT will be $438.9 million, of which the World Bank will have a share of $381.9 million, the Sindh government will pay $19.5 million.
The Sindh Government has been focusing on the transportation problems in Karachi with the launch of the Peoples Bus Service as well as the testing of the upcoming Electric Bus Service.
