Karachi’s traffic police have issued a comprehensive traffic management plan for the upcoming Muharram processions on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram. Here are the detailed arrangements:
8th Muharram
- Procession Route:
- Starts at Nishtar Park
- Ends at Hussainian Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar
- Roads Affected: MA Jinnah Road (from Gurumandir to Tower), Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto Road, Mehfil-i-Shah-i-Khurasan, Mansfield Street, Preedy Street, Tibet Chowk, Baba-e-Urdu, Bara Imam, Altaf Hussain Road, Bolton Market, Nawaz Mahabat Khanjee Road, Bombay Bazaar, Kharadar Police Station
9th Muharram (Tuesday)
- Morning Procession:
- Starts at 9 AM from Martin Road Imambargah, Liaquatabad
- Reaches Nishtar Park by 12 PM for a Majlis
- Main Procession Route:
- Starts at Nishtar Park
- Ends at Hussainian Iranian Imambargah, Kharadar
- Follows the same route as 8th Muharram
10th Muharram (Saturday)
- Procession Route:
- Follows the same route as the 8th and 9th Muharram processions
Traffic Diversions and Road Closures
- General Restrictions:
- MA Jinnah Road from Gurumandir to Tower will remain closed
- Traffic from Gurumandir Chowk diverted to Soldier Bazaar Road (Bahadur Yar Jang Road), Coast Guard, Ankle Seria Chowk to Jubilee or Nishtar Road
- Traffic from Nazimabad diverted from Lasbela towards Nishtar Road and Zoological Gardens
- Traffic from Liaquatabad side diverted onto Martin Road towards Central Jail Karachi
- Specific Routes:
- Commuters from Hassan Square: Proceed towards People’s Chowrangi via Kashmir Road and Shahrah-e-Quaideen or take Jail Flyover towards Nishtar Road
- Commuters from Shahrah-e-Faisal: Proceed towards Shahrah-e-Quaideen via Society Light Signal and Kashmir Road
- Commuters from Jamshed Road: Proceed towards Gurumandir via Bahadu Yar Jung Road
- Special Instructions:
- Vehicles from Shahrah-e-Quaideen: Not allowed towards Numaish except for those participating in the procession with valid stickers. Diverted to Society Signal
