KARACHI: In a much-needed respite for the heat-weary residents of Karachi, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast sporadic drizzle in the city’s coastal areas today.
The Met Office has also indicated that monsoon rains are expected to reach eastern Sindh by tomorrow evening. This will likely result in downpours between July 6 and 7 in Umarkot, Tharparkar, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, and Jacobabad.
This forecast comes in the wake of a severe heatwave in Karachi, which has sadly resulted in 49 fatalities, according to the Sindh Health Department.
For the next three days, the weather in Karachi is expected to remain hot and humid, with temperatures ranging from 34°C to 36°C. A sea breeze, blowing at around 12 to 14 kilometers per hour, has brought some relief, with the lowest temperature in the past 24 hours recorded at 30.5°C.
Earlier this week, Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz mentioned that Karachi is likely to experience rains after July 8. The PMD has predicted vigorous monsoon activity in the upper and central parts of the country this week due to strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.
Stay safe and take necessary precautions during the heatwave and upcoming monsoon rains.
