The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Thursday issued a weather alert for Karachi, forecasting a second spell of winter rain in the port city during the first week of January 2022.
According to PMD Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz, Karachi is expected to remain cold as the city receives its second spell of winter rain from 5 January 2022.
He added that moderate to heavy rain is expected in Karachi on January 5 and 6.
Meanwhile, a strong westerly system is likely to enter the country via Balochistan on December 31.
The weather in Karachi will remain cold during this period and temperatures in the city will likely remain in the range of 10-13 degrees Celsius.
Karachi Rain
It is pertinent to mention that Karachi received its first spell of winter rain on 7 December 2021 along with other cities of Sindh, including Hyderabad, Nawab Shah, Larkana, and Sukkur.
The weather of Karachi has remained cold throughout the month with the metropolis recording its coldest day in 13 years with a maximum temperature dropping to 19 degrees Celsius.
According to the Met Office, the maximum temperature of 19 degrees Celsius was recorded in Karachi due to the rainfall taking place in the port city.
The last time Karachi experienced the coldest day was in 2008 when the maximum temperature dropped to 19.6 degrees Celsius.
