The National Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) granted approval for the imposition of a surcharge of Rs1.52 per unit on Karachi Electric (KE) consumers.
The decision was made in response to a petition filed by the federal government, with NEPRA specifying that the surcharge will be applicable on electricity bills from November 2023 to December 2024.
This additional surcharge is anticipated to place an extra burden of Rs24.5 billion on consumers.
NEPRA has communicated its decision to the federal government, and it is expected that an official notification regarding the surcharge will be issued soon.
