Dua Mangi returns home last night (Friday) after the girl who was 20 was kidnapped on 1st of December, Sunday from DHA . According to sources, Dua Mangi is safe but the family has not commented on the matter.
According to police authorities, the 20 year old law student was kidnapped for ransom. The police instructed the family to avoid talks with media directly.
DIG Sharjeel Khan from South Zone, Karachi, made a statement on Thursday saying:
It appears to be a case of kidnapping for ransom […] it has been ascertained through investigation that the student was kidnapped for ransom.
Police authorities were still investigating the matter and had questioned more then a dozen people regarding the matter. The police said that they were looking into this case from the perspective of one of their past kidnappt However, Dua Mangi returned home herself on late Friday night according to different news sources.
Dua Mangi’s family received suspicious calls that is believed to be from the kidnappers which is why the police were looking into this case from a ransom kidnapping perspective and taking into account the information they had from previous cases to try and find any suspects linked to these cases. According to police sources, many of those previous cases are also under investigation.
The kidnapping took place when Dua Mangi and her friend Haris were coming home a friend’s birthday party and Dua was kidnapped at gunpoint while her friend Haris was shot. Her friend is now doing fine and is out of danger.
The police had obtained CCTV footage of Dua Mangi kidnapping incident from different cameras and was even able to come across an eye witness, a riskshaw driver who claimed to have seen the incident.
An FIR was registered under Sections 324 for attempted murder and 365 for abduction against the unidentified men by Haris’s father.
Not long after the kidnapping took place, the matter went viral on social media and received a lot of attention.
