The Provincial Assembly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has passed the “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Child Protection and Welfare (Amendment) Act, 2022, which will allow life imprisonment or death sentence of child abusers.
Meanwhile, whoever commits child pornography will also face up to 14 years of imprisonment, which may extend to 20 years and shall also be fined Rs. 2-5 million. The bill was introduced in light of the increasing number of child abuse cases across the province.
“The person whose name is entered or appearing in the Register of Sexual Offenders shall not be employed in any organization relating to or dealing with children in the province,” said the bill, adding that whoever gives employment to someone who has committed such a crime will be jailed for five years and fined up to Rs. 10 million.
Furthermore, those involved in child trafficking will either be sentenced to life imprisonment or they would also face 14-20 years behind bars. Moreover, the cases of child sexual abuse will be heard in child protection courts and the case must give a verdict within 30 days.
