PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced an initiative to supply free solar panels to 100,000 needy households in the province.
Advisor to the Chief Minister on Finance, Muzammil Aslam, shared this news in an interview with a foreign media outlet. He stated that the provincial government would provide a complete two-kilowatt solar setup, including batteries, DC fans, and inverters.
Muzammil Aslam emphasized that the project aims to equip 100,000 households with this free solar panel setup. He also highlighted that KP has already established over 90 power plants, generating electricity at Rs 6 to Rs 7 per unit. In contrast, the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) provides electricity at Rs 27 per unit.
This initiative follows similar announcements from the Punjab and Sindh governments, which are also focusing on solar energy solutions for their residents.
On May 29, the Sindh government, led by Syed Murad Ali Shah, revealed a plan to offer affordable electricity to over 200,000 households in collaboration with the World Bank. Each household will receive a complete solar system for Rs 7,000, including solar panels, charge controllers, and batteries. The setup will power one fan and three LED bulbs.
Similarly, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved the provision of a 1-kilowatt solar system to 50,000 families. This decision came during a meeting chaired by CM Maryam Nawaz to review energy projects.
The solar system will be available to protected power consumers using under 100 electricity units per month, including two solar panels, batteries, an inverter, and wires.
