A surprising incident in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province has led to a case of electricity theft being registered against a three-year-old child.
The complaint was filed by the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) and the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA). They accused the minor, Zaeem Abbas, of being involved in power theft. This unusual case led to the child being presented before the Additional Sessions Judge.
However, the case against the young boy was dismissed after the judge received an affidavit from the child’s lawyer. The lawyer argued that WAPDA and PESCO officials were uncertain if the child was indeed their client.
This incident comes amid a broader effort by power companies to combat electricity theft, which has been causing significant financial losses. Last month alone, power theft resulted in a loss of Rs. 438 billion for Power Distribution Companies (DISCOs).
