The caretaker Chief Minister (CM) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Azam Khan, has passed away in Peshawar on Saturday morning after he was shifted to a private hospital.
According to the details, Azam Khan was suffering from a severe stomach infection and his health deteriorated after a heart attack.
He was moved to the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU), where he passed away.
Azam Khan’s funeral prayers were held in Charsadda at 3:00 pm today.
It is pertinent to mention that Azam Khan was sworn in as caretaker Chief Minister after consultations between outgoing CM Mahmood Khan and leader of the opposition Akram Khan Durrani.
The provincial cabinet has been dissolved following Azam Khan’s death and the Senate will now take a decision to start the selection process for next caretaker Chief Minister.
A six member committee will be formed comprising of three government members and three opposition members to nominate for a the KP Chief Minister’s slot.
If they are unable to make a decision, the matter will fall to the election commission, which will decide within 48 hours.
Until a Chief Minster takes charge, all the powers rest with the governor, who will run the administrative affairs of the province for a week.
