Motorcyclists without a helmet will not get petrol at any station across Lahore as per the directives of the Deputy Commissioner. According to the details, the order comes three days after DIG Traffic Police Punjab issued a letter to make helmets mandatory for motorcyclists.
The Government of Punjab has adopted a zero tolerance policy of ‘No Helmet No Petrol’ to promote road safety and prevent deaths from head injuries. The authorities have instructed all petrol pump owners have been instructed not to sell petrol to motorcyclists without a helmet.
In a notification issued by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner Lahore, it was stated that use of helmet is mandatory under the law for safety of bikers and violation of this order is an offence under the provision of Motor Vehicle Ordinance.
However, it has been observed that the order is being ignored with an increase in death ratio / severe head injuries of bikers in road accidents / collisions.
“In order to eradicate this illegal practice and to ensure road safety and prevent loss of precious life, complete ban is being imposed on selling of fuel to bikers / motorcyclists without wearing safety helmet within revenue jurisdiction of District Lahore.” the notification read.

It is pertinent to mention that CTO Rawalpindi, Taimur Khan, has also instructed petrol pump owners to not give any petrol to motorcyclists without a helmet. He added that with this initiative, the people will realize that helmets are very important.
