The Lahore High Court (LHC) has extended the market timings in the city as Eid ul Adha approaches. The decision was made by Justice Shahid Karim during a session on addressing issues related to smog and environmental pollution.
Under the new order, markets in Lahore will be allowed to stay open until 1 AM on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. On other weekdays, markets can remain open until midnight. This extension aims to facilitate shopping in preparation for Eidul Adha, which is likely to be observed on Monday, June 17.
Furthermore, the court has mandated the opening of the Bagh-e-Jinnah water channel. A report from the Punjab Food Authority was also reviewed during the hearing.
Meanwhile, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to meet in Karachi today to sight the Zilhajj moon, which will confirm the exact date for Eid ul Adha in Pakistan. The meeting will take place at the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s (PMD) office.
