The Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered a new weekly holiday for schools and colleges in Punjab on Saturdays until the end of January 2024 in order to curb the worsening smog situation in the province.
According to the details, the decision was taken in response to petitions filed by citizens seeking measures to tackle the problem of worsening air pollution in the province and the rise in smog as a result.
Furthermore, Justice Shahid Karim of the Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed the concerned officials to issue a notification in this regard. As per the Lahore High Court (LHC) directives, there will be an extra weekly holiday for schools and colleges in Punjab’s smog affected districts.
Moreover, the Punjab government is also taking measures to ensure work from home (WFH) arrangement is followed by employers for two days a week, which will hopefully help counter the smog situation in the province.
The Punjab government has already announced that mask wearing is now mandatory in all smog affected districts of the province to avoid individuals getting sick as a result of the poor air quality.
