The Government of Pakistan (GOP) has approved a massive hike in the electricity tariff for the month of December 2021.
According to the details, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued a notification which states that the electricity consumers will have to bear an extra burden of Rs. 6 billion. However, this increase will not be implemented for K Electric and Life Line Customers.
The increase in the electricity tariff will be implemented from December 2021.
Last month, the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin said that Pakistan had agree with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to increase the electricity prices in Pakistan.
He added that it was an “uphill task to back out from the programme after the receipt of $500 million from the Fund.” Shaukat Tarin also flanked the Federal Minister for Energy Hammad Azhar. “Negotiations with the IMG have ended successfully,” adding that IMF has called for Tax Reforms to continue.
Therefore, the Government has announced an increase in the electricity prices in Pakistan.
