Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Murtaza Solangi, has stated that mobile and internet services in Pakistan will remain operational as no instructions have been received for suspension on the poling day.
He stated that freedom to communicate and access information is essential for a free and fair election process, highlighting the government’s commitment towards upholding the democratic principles.
Solangi stated that local administrations would take all necessary actions in accordance with the law to maintain peace and security during the electoral process across the country.
According to Solangi, there have been no instructions so far to suspend any mobile or internet services in Pakistan on the election day.
Mobile and Internet Services in Balochistan
While Solangi did not mention any suspension, Balochistan’s caretaker Information Minister, Jan Achakzai, stated that internet services will be suspended around critical poling stations in the province for the General Elections on February 8, 2024.
He stated that the decision has been taken in response to a terror alert and all precautionary measures will be taken to ensure security of voters. The suspension of internet services will primarily affect regions like Turbat, Mach, Chaman, surrounding areas.
