ISLAMABAD – The Monal, a renowned eatery nestled in the Margalla Hills of Islamabad, has announced its closure following a Supreme Court ruling on June 11, 2024. The judgment mandated the closure of all restaurants within the Margalla Hills National Park, effective from September 11, 2024.
In an emotional statement shared on Instagram, Monal expressed gratitude to its loyal patrons: “Dear valued customers, thank you for your trust and for giving us a chance to serve you to the best of our abilities, for giving us recognition, appreciation, and a place in your heart.”
The Monal administration further reminisced about their journey, stating, “Since 2006, it has been an absolute pleasure for the Monal family to serve and showcase a positive image of Pakistan and its beautiful people.” They acknowledged the deep connection they had built with the community, describing their journey as filled with success stories and emotional moments.
The Supreme Court’s decision to close all eateries in the national park aims to preserve the natural environment and restrict commercial activities in the protected area. Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa highlighted the importance of maintaining the integrity of the National Park and instructed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to prioritize leasing options for affected restaurants outside the park boundaries.
Monal has voluntarily agreed to relocate within the stipulated three-month period, demonstrating their commitment to adhering to the court’s directive while seeking to continue their legacy in a new location.
This development marks the end of an era for Monal, a beloved institution that has not only provided culinary delights but also contributed to promoting the beauty and hospitality of Pakistan.
