Karachi : Police was set on high alert as Muttahida Qaumi Movement ( MQM ) earlier planned up to protest outside Rangers Headquarters, later MQM leadership called off its protest outside Rangers Headquarters after participants of its rally were stopped from proceeding towards the Red Zone where the paramilitary force is headquartered at Jinnah Courts.

Things are still unsettled between Political Party and Paramilitary Force, The police had placed barriers at Numaish near Qauid’s mausoleum to stop the MQM workers and leaders as the authorities said the party was not allowed to take out the rally due to section 144 imposed in the city.

The protesters then staged a sit-in near Qauid’s mausoleum where senior leaders of the MQM addressed the rally.

Dr Farooq Sattar said: “It is our right to protest at Rangers headquarters, Rangers should have met us here, if they were not willing to let us protest at their office,”. He claimed the MQM workers were facing state oppression for the last two years.

“Don’t harass our voters by raiding our offices,” he said, claiming that efforts were afoot to keep the MQM’s margin of victory low in the upcoming local government election by instilling fear in voters.

“We do not want confrontation, we will show patience and remain peaceful,” Dr Sattar said, adding that if the law enforcement agencies want to fill jails at any cost, the MQM was prepared to send its workers voluntarily behind the bars.

Speaking on the occasion, Haider Abbas Rizvi said the MQM would not boycott the local government election and win the polls on December 5.

Pakistan Rangers has arrested several terrorists linked with MQM and came up with evident proofs against the political party, couple of months back MQM resigned from Provincial and National assemblies later on the talks between MQM and Federal Government turned out to be successful and returns back to the assemblies however, MQM’s clash with Pakistan Rangers still continues on.
