The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has once again approved an increase of Rs. 1.55 per unit in the power tariff on account of quarterly adjustment. According to the details, the increase in the electricity prices will put an additional burden of Rs. 39 billion on the power consumers.
The regulator allowed has allowed an increase in the power tariff on account of variation in capacity charges, variable operation and maintenance (O&M) cost, use of system charges, market operation fee and fuel cost adjustment (FCA) impact of transmission and distribution losses for second quarter of financial year 2021-22.
The ex-WAPDA Distribution Companies (DISCOs) will collect an additional amount of Rs. 39 billion on account of quarterly adjustment for the second quarter of FY222 from all power consumers through an increase of Rs. 1.55 per unit in the power tariff. However, the increased electricity prices will not apply to lifeline consumers and K-Electric
NEPRA said that it has decided to apply the same with effect from July 1, 2022, which would be recovered within three months form the date of notification. It is pertinent to mention that NEPRA has already approved a hike of Rs. 0.42 per unit for Ex-Wapda Distribution Companies (XWDISCOs) on account of the quarterly adjustment for third quarter (January to March 2022) of the current fiscal year.
Furthermore, NEPRA also hiked electricity prices by Rs. 10.06 per unit in total as Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) for the month of April.
