The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has hiked the power tariff by Rs. 4.46 per unit. According to the details, the electricity tariff for different consumer categories would range between Rs. 1.49 to Rs. 4.46 per unit.
The hike in the power tariff would place a burden of Rs. 4.938 billion on power consumers on account of variation in capacity charges, variable operation and maintenance (O&M) cost, additional recovery on incremental sales, use of system charges, market operator fee and impact of fuel cost adjustment (FCA) on transmission and distribution losses for the first quarter (July to September) of FY 2023.
The increase in the electricity tariff comes after power distribution companies (DISCOs) applied for the increase in tariff under first quarter adjustment for financial year 2022-23 and a public hearing was held in this regard on November 15, 2022.
The hike in the power tariff will be implemented for the month of February and March, 2023, and will not be applicable for K-Electric and Lifeline customers.
It is pertinent to mention that NEPRA also approved a hike in the electricity price for K-Electric consumers by Rs. 4.49 per unit on account of uniform tariff. According to the details, the increased tariff will be applied in the monthly bills for January to April, 2023.
