Commissioner Karachi has announced the new price of milk after consultation with the Dairy Farmers Association.
According to the details, the price of milk in Karachi is now Rs. 220 per liter at the retail level, which is a Rs. 20 increase. Meanwhile, the wholesale price is fixed at Rs 205, while dairy farmers will pay Rs 195 per liter.
The increase comes despite falling petroleum prices in recent days. Dairy farmers had been demanding for higher prices to be charged for milk to enable them to cater to their costs.
The Commissioner and dairy farmers reached an agreement for Rs. 20 per litre increase in the mil price It has been decided in the deal that selling of milk from dairy farmers at official prices shall be ensured and in case of non-compliance, legal actions will be initiated.
It also adds that milk resellers would not seek any more hikes till December 31. The dairy farmers must also clearly indicate purchase and sale prices at all levels. The quality of milk must also be maintained from diaries to retailers.
