The Federal Government has announced that there will be no load shedding during Eid ul Adha holidays in order to provide relief to the citizens from constant power outages amidst the intense summer heat.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy has requested data on power generation and consumption to make sure it can facilitate this decision. However, the country is facing a severe power shortage of 6,300 megawatts at the time.
According to the details, the total demand for electricity is stands at 26,900 megawatts, while the power generation is only 20,600 megawatts. The national grid is generation 7,900 megawatts of electricity with independent power producers contributing an additional 7,700 megawatts of power.
Meanwhile, the electricity generation from nuclear power plants only stands at 3,130, which is making the power crisis much worse. Furthermore, power distribution companies have reported difficulties meeting demand of consumers during peak hours.
They have attributed the power shortage to lack of fuel supply and maintenance issues.
The Government has announced that no load-shedding will take place during Eid ul Adha holidays, but it remains to be seen how the Government will manage to provide uninterrupted power to consumers amid severe shortage.
