Zahir Jaffer, the suspect who allegedly murdered Noor Mukadam, the daughter of Pakistani Ex-Diplomat, was sound and in his senses when he was arrested was the prime suspect in the murder case, said SSP Investigation Ataur Rehman while addressing a press conference on Thursday in Islamabad.
Noor Mukadam, the daughter of Shaukat Mukadam, was brutally murdered and then beheaded at a house in Sector F-7/4 in Islamabad on Tuesday. The Islamabad Police arrested Zahir Jaffer, son of businessman Zakir Jaffer and a friend of the victim, over his involvement in the Noor Mukadam murder case.
SSP (Investigation) Ataur Rehman while addressing a press conference on Thursday said that the alleged suspect was sound in his senses when arrested by police despite the rumored drug abuse history.
He added that drug usage was not the domain of the investigation but the police were focusing on the suspect’s mental state and initial findings revealed that Zahir Jaffer was completely in his senses and aware of his actions when he allegedly committed the murder of Noor Mukadam.
The police initially said that the victim, Noor Mukadam, was shot dead before being beheaded while another person was also injured in the attack. Furthermore, the murder weapon was also recovered from the suspect’s possession and sent for forensics.
SSP Ataur Rehman said that servants working at the house were the murder was committed have also been included in the investigation and questioning has revealed that there was a quarrel between the victim, Noor Mukadam, and the alleged suspect, Zahir Jaffer.
He added the the police was alerted about the incident by a local resident and immediately reached the crime scene from the police station which was hardly at a “distance of 10 minutes” from the house.
“A special team was made because this case is very important for us,” he said, stressing that police were “standing with the aggrieved family, and getting them every kind of justice is our duty and responsibility”.
SSP said that the findings of the investigation would be based on solid evidence and the suspect will be convicted and sentenced based on that evidence. He added that in such a circumstance when someone’s brutal murder is committed, it does not not matter whether the person is financially strong of the son of an influential person.
It is pertinent to mention that it is being said that Noor Mukadam was killed over breakup with the accused, who could not handle the refusal and rejection.
Moreover, the police have obtained a three-day physical remand of the accused suspect, Zahir Jaffer, from a local court on Wednesday while further investigation is being carried out.
