Suspects Remanded in Police Custody
The four suspects were presented before a court and after hearing the arguments, the court decided to grant two-day physical remand of the suspect’s parents and household staff.
In the hearing, it was revealed that Noor Mukadam, the victim, had jumped off the first floor of the residence on an air shaft in an attempt to escape. “The household staff saw the suspect dragging the victim back into the house. If they had informed the police timely, the murder could have been stopped.” said a police official at the hearing of the case.
He said that the neighbors had called the police and units arrived at the scene in three minutes and requested the court to grant physical remand of the suspects so that their phones could be retrieved and sent for forensic analysis.
However, the lawyer for the suspect’s parents and household staff said that his clients condemned the murder. “My clients want justice to be done. Police took them into custody despite them [having obtained] bail. We will get a contempt case and an FIR registered against police.” said Advocate Rizwan Abbasi.
He added that his clients did not support Zahir Jaffer and only sent the staff from the rehabilitation centre after they heard noise in the house. They only came to know about the murder after the heinous crime was committed.
Meanwhile, the lawyer for the victim’s family said that due process of law should be followed and justice provided for Noor Mukadam. He added that the parents of the alleged accused should remain in police custody.
The Incident
Noor Mukadam, the daughter of Shaukat Mukadam, was brutally murdered and then beheaded at a house in Sector F-7/4 in Islamabad. The Islamabad Police arrested Zahir Jaffer, son of businessman Zakir Jaffer and a friend of the victim, over his involvement in the Noor Mukadam murder case.
The murder weapon, including a knife, pistol and a knuckleduster were recovered from the alleged killer’s and sent for forensic analysis.
Furthermore, it was being said that the accused was mentally ill and the investigation team started probing the case from this angle as well and it was concluded in the initial investigation that Zahir Jaffer was sound and in his senses at the time of committing the murder of Noor Mukadam.
The team investigating the incident has recorded the statement of the victim’s family as well as the psychotherapists who reportedly treated the alleged killer Zahir Jaffer.
“If such a person was employed as the director of a company, then his parents, too, must be made part of the investigation,” said Shaukat Mukadam during a press conference.
