The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has taken notice of the surge in price of LPG in Pakistan since the start of Ramadan over fears of a shortage. However, OGRA has revealed that ample stocks of LPG are available in the country, but an artificial shortage is being created through hoarding of LPG stocks in order to raise prices.
The Ministry of Energy, Petroleum Division, and OGRA have urged the Provincial Chief Secretaries to direct the local governments to take strict action against these illegal hoarders and bring down the price of LPG for the end consumer.
Furthermore, OGRA enforcement teams have been deployed in the field to monitor the stocks and make sure LPG is being sold at the prescribed prices to consumers, who are already suffering the brunt of inflation due to the country’s economic situation.
Furthermore, there might be a reduction in the price of petrol and diesel in Pakistan for the next fortnight, starting March 16, 2024. As per media reports, the price of petrol is expected to see a reduction of Rs. 5 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) might be reduced by Rs. 4 per litre.
