Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has announced a ban on all New Year’s celebrations across Pakistan in solidarity with the people of Gaza.
In a televised address, Prime Minister Kakar stated, “Due to the situation in Palestine, the state of the Pakistani nation is rather somber, leading the Government of Pakistan to opt for a ban on all New Year’s celebrations in consideration of the prevailing circumstances.”
“I urge fellow Pakistanis to stand in solidarity with the oppressed Palestinians and embrace simplicity as we welcome the new year.” Kakar added.
It is pertinent to mention that Israel, determined to wipe out Hamas, launched their attack at Gaza after the October 7 incident, which has resulted in the death of over 21,000 Palestinians, majority of them women and children.
During his speech, Kakar highlighted that Pakistan has dispatched two shipments of aid to Gaza, with a third on its way, aiming to ease the suffering caused by Israel’s devastating bombardment.
He added that Pakistani authorities were actively coordinating with counterparts in Egypt and Jordan to ensure that the collective efforts were focused on improving the conditions for Palestinians.
