Pakistan has launched its second satellite, PAKSAT MM1, into space in collaboration with China. This advanced communication satellite was launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in China and aims to improve internet connectivity across Pakistan, especially in remote areas.
PAKSAT MM1, launched by the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), will reach space in about four days. It will help establish a sophisticated communication network and meet the growing demands of the telecom sector. The satellite will provide high-speed internet and seamless connectivity, addressing the increasing demand for advanced communication services.
The high-power multi-mission satellite will offer communication services in C, Ku, Ka Bands, and SBAS services in L Band. Suparco emphasized that PAKSAT MM1 will play a crucial role in the socio-economic development of Pakistan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the nation on this achievement, expressing excitement about the satellite’s potential impact on internet connectivity. He highlighted that PAKSAT MM1 would enhance the lives of Pakistani citizens and promote economic activities, e-commerce, and e-governance.
This launch follows Pakistan’s historic lunar mission, ICUBE-Qamar, which was sent into space on May 3, 2024, aboard China’s Chang’E6 from Hainan, China. The ICUBE-Qamar mission marked Pakistan’s first lunar exploration effort, a significant milestone in the country’s space endeavors. The satellite, designed by the Institute of Space Technology (IST) in collaboration with China’s Shanghai University SJTU and SUPARCO, successfully transmitted its first images from lunar orbit, providing unique views of the moon’s surface.
