Pakistan Railways has taken a commendable step to make train travel more affordable for citizens nationwide. In a recent announcement, authorities revealed a significant reduction in train fares across various classes, effective immediately.
This decision brings much-needed relief to both daily commuters and occasional travelers who have been struggling with rising transportation costs.
The fare reduction applies to train journeys ranging from one to 200 kilometers, covering a substantial portion of short-distance travel. Notable reductions are seen in the economy and AC classes, which serve a wide range of passengers. For example, economy class fares on routes like Lahore to Rawalpindi have been slashed by an impressive 54%, with the minimum fare dropping from Rs 250 to Rs 100.
Similarly, the economy class fare for the Khyber Mail, covering distances from 1km to 130 km, has also been reduced from Rs 250 to Rs 100.
The fare reductions are not limited to the economy class; AC class passengers will also benefit from a significant 40% reduction across various routes. This move underscores Pakistan Railways’ commitment to making train travel accessible and affordable for all segments of society.
By passing on the benefits of decreased fuel costs to the public, the department aims to encourage more individuals to choose train travel, thereby easing the burden on other transportation modes and contributing to a more sustainable transportation system.
The fare reduction announcement has been widely welcomed by the public, who have long been advocating for more affordable and convenient transportation options. This initiative not only alleviates the financial burden on commuters but also promotes the use of public transportation, positively impacting the environment by reducing carbon emissions. As Pakistan Railways continues to enhance its services, the public can anticipate a more efficient and cost-effective travel experience shortly.
