The Pakistan Railways have announced an increase in the fares for all Mail/Express and Intercity trains and saloons. According to the official notification issued by Pakistan Railways, the increase in fares would come into effect from 17th June 2022 for all Mail/Express and Intercity trains and saloons on advance reservation.
The notification requested the Divisional Superintendents to implement the updated Fare Table at all concerned stations and booking/reservation offices. The Fare Table will be available at Pakistan Railways (PR) website. The updated fares for Pakistan Railways Mail/Express and Intercity trains will come into effect from 17th June 2022.
It is pertinent to mention that normal passenger trains will see no increase in the price of fares in order to reduce financial burden on low-income commuters, announced the Pakistan Railways Minister, Saad Rafique, in a press conference at the Railways Headquarters.
He added that hike in fares would help save Rs. 1 billion to the Pakistan Railways. He said that current revenue of Railways was Rs. 53.3 billion while its deficit was more than Rs. 37 billion, which was likely to swell to Rs. 45 billion. Similarly, the Railcop subsidiary, which was running on a profit of Rs400 million in his previous ministerial tenure, suffered a loss of Rs9 million last year.
