The first train will leave Karachi for Peshawar via Lahore on the 13th while second train will leave Karachi for Lahore via Faisalabad on the 14th of this month.
meanwhile, Pakistan Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has pledged that he will resign from his office if deficit is not reduced and the department has to be privatised. The minister also said he would not take charge of any other ministry in case he quit from the Railways Ministry.
In a consultative meeting with senior media personalities at the Pakistan Railways Headquarters, Saad Rafiq said the Pakistan Railways could work its way out of the current debt and crisis and there was no apparent need for privatisation. He said the improvement was visible in the department with joint efforts of the ministry, officers and workers and he hoped that the deficit would be reduced in billions within few months.
The minister said it was decided that no officer from district management group (DMG) would be appointed in the PR and officers within the department would be given responsibilities. He said that a metro train project in Lahore would be launched with the cooperation of the Lahore Development Authority and the Punjab government, adding Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was determined for the project.
He said the train would be run between Kalashah Kaku and Kasur railway stations, adding that new terminals, track and fencing would be installed for the said purpose which would make it possible to increase the speed of the train and reduce the accidents.
The minister said anotherproject of train from Islamabad, Murree and Muzafarbad with the cooperation of the Capital Development Authority was under consideration and the project was not so expensive.
Discussing the Karachi Circular Railways, the minister said the PPP and the MQM had been asked for cooperation for the restoration of the service. The work on the revival of the service will be started after the availability of finance, he added
